About Movin' On Up

The Express Employment Professionals Movin' On Up job blog focuses on our evolving workplace and how workers can make the most of it. Most people spend the majority of their lives at their jobs. For that reason, it makes sense to enjoy work and to do what you love. At Movin’ On Up, we want to discuss how we can make our work lives more financially, mentally and emotionally rewarding.

Tiffany – Growing up, my parents told me I could be anything. I took that to mean I could be everything, all at once. I started my first business selling jewelry at age seven and started campaigning to be the first woman president at age eight. My curiosity and passion for pursuing new opportunities hasn’t changed. At one point in time, I was going to grad school full-time, working full-time at a Fortune 500 company, waiting tables and running a jewelry business, all while commuting an hour three times a day!

Currently, I’m working hard at my day job at Express writing about jobs, staffing, HR, career advancement and management. In my spare time, I am finishing up my master’s degree in journalism, serving as a chairperson for a professional organization, researching my master’s thesis, writing an eBook, learning about professional photography, trying to find a good deal on a used piano, working in my yard, helping my friends launch a start-up T-shirt company, volunteering with youth and writing a children’s book.

Jennifer – I have always loved communicating, whether it was through writing, acting or performing a comedy skit in front of my friends. When I was 14, I decided that I was going to start communicating with the world by writing my autobiography. However, after realizing that my life story wouldn’t be a bestseller, I turned my focus to other forms of communication. Acting or practicing law sounded really exciting. Either way, I was going to tell a story. So, I set off to pursue my dreams.

During my college years, I found myself drawn to a number of fields. First, there was business communications, then acting classes and finally legal studies. Eventually, I came back to my first passion – communication. My acting classes taught me how to entertain, and my law classes taught me how to educate. So, if I can use just a little of what I learned from those classes in my field of work, then I'll feel as though I've succeeded. And even though I took a winding path to get where I am today, all the detours along the way were worth it.

When I am not working, I enjoy reading and writing poetry and screenplays.
