Should You Talk Politics at Work?

With all the talk about the upcoming election – not to mention the candidates, the economy, and the new bailout bill that just passed, politics is a hot topic of conversation – just about as hot as whether or not we should be talking about it at work. In the past, politics has been a major faux paus of controversial topics, along with sex, money, and religion – not just at work, but in general. But, as our culture has changed, people are more and more vocal about their opinions in a variety of places, from blogs to conversation with friends.

When you spend so much time at work chatting it up with your fellow co-workers about all other types of issues, it’s hard not to bring up your thoughts and opinions about this hot topic – one of the most historic elections in our lifetime.

When people speak about politics, especially if they of an extremist nature, they tend to get all worked up. So avoiding any discussions of politics in the work place, would be the best bet, as team spirit has the potential to be broken by a wave of insults. The only thing that can end up happening once team spirits are broken is work not being completed to full satisfaction.

I think people need to be intelligent and realize there are people who can take and receive information on any topic. We need to be able to communicate, and this is why so many people do not have the ability to chat about issues. They see it as personal and they need to remember it is the other persons view. When we exchange ideas and knowledge this is how we evolve as a peacefull society. Shutting down and not being able to exchange is not good for people. I think that we need to be educated. There should be courses on how to talk and listen – we can only benefit. These issues are just so close to the animal reflexes. Just educate us and we can exchange our conversation and quite possibly learn from each other. YES! I know that means we do or do not agree, but look at America compared to other countries. We are a peaceful people, we can accomplish that here. Ty

People Should avoid talking about politics in the work place because majority of citizens don’t know half of what they’re talking about. People hear information or rumors through other people, and repeat them without researching them. Majority of the country votes based on what they’ve heard from other people or seen on t.v., not what they’ve researched. Lets leave it to the Political Science majors to talk about politics, because our complaining isn’t going to do anything.
