I think that communication and a quick learner would have a tie for my vote. In my line of business I need someone who listens to direction and can learn fast.
@ Darrin – Thanks for the feedback! I agree that many of these skills completement each other.
To me, it’s interesting to see that work ethic and positive attitude are on top, especially in our current business environment.
A strong work ethic is “key” in any position. If you have that, regardless of the position you are in, you’ll go above and beyond the call of duty. Employers long to see employees who go the EXTRA MILE in all they say AND do! Many of the other “soft skills” typically follow that quality in a person because they generally tend to be leaders who function out of integrity!

negativity is a self fulfilling prophecy and more contagious than H1N1!
A strong work ethic and positive attitude can be contagious and spread quickly in the workplace if one person sets a good example others are sure to follow. I see it happen everywhere I go.
The most important skill to have is to keep clients happy, satisified and left with knowing that they and their wants and needs are most important no matter what. Every skill you have will be made for their benefit.
Listen, Learn and Solve problems or find the department that takes care of that problem. Do not leave the client hanging. Let them know what is hapening, how and why!
Interesting figures. Definately needed to complete imperitive tasks. Very Helpful.
customer service is #1
In my line of business things are constantly on the change (with new rules legislation comming in all the time). For that reason one of the biggest things that we see as a requirement for potential employees is adaptability, which I guess goes hand in hand with being a quick learner but also goes beyond this as it means that you have no one to learn from so have to show initiative as well.
