Although I expect the job market to get better, I am still looking for a inside sales position. I have been without a job for a year now with interviews few and far between.

I am a 60 year old woman and was laid off from an insurance job 2 1/2 years ago. I have probably applied to thousands of jobs and sent out as many resumes with very little if any response. I am using 3 temp companies and some contract companies and they haven’t found anything either. I get e-mails from CareerBuildersand Jobs, Inc., and also Jobs online, and I fill their apps out and send my resume (which all say is fine). No response. I do have some insurance but am on Cobra and is costing a fortune. That’s my story and I am fairly healthy and not of SS age yet. I am apparently not what anyone is looking for, but I need to work and need health benefits. I can use a computer and have typing skills. I worked all my life and never have been out of work this long with no prospects.

I have been looking for work for two years. I feel as though I have three strikes against me. I am 53 years old and the job market is looking for younger individuals who can put more years in the workforce. Also, I have no formal education and I don’t have the time or finances to get one. Finally, I am old school where you walked up to a man and asked for a job. He either gave you one or he did’nt. I have no experience with the new job market with Human Resource Dept. and interviews and credit checks. So finding a job for a man like me is difficult.

After 8 terrible years of an administration of policy that enriched the rich and exempted the middle class with hardly any tax breaks, we lost. The gains will be slow for another 2-3 years. I am working, but I have felt after shocks of a bad economy and other issues surrounding it.

There is not job market in here in Canada, they hire you when they like you not for your qualifications for the job. Sometime they mistakenly call you for an interview but if you’re not when you got there, you’re “at the wrong place at the wrong time”. .

Thanks for your insight, Chol. Have you tried one of the Express Employment Professionals offices in Canada? They are always looking for qualified workers to help fill job needs.
