Company cultures vary across the country. Some companies prefer professional dress codes while others embrace shorts and flipflops. One business might offer traditional Christmas bonuses while another chooses to give incremental raises throughout the year.
It’s these differences that make for a diverse and interesting economy, full of different companies, each one well-matched to a particular type of employee personality.
In Express Employment Professionals’ Fourth Quarter 2018 Job Insights survey, 79% of businesses surveyed said that it was “somewhat” or “very” difficult for them to fill open positions. That means employers are going to do everything they can to keep great employees like you at the company.
Studies show the total cost of employee turnover can be as high as 150% of an employee’s annual salary.
Assume the average salary in your company is $50,000—that means every time an employee leaves, the cost to replace them could be as high as $75,000! Now, multiply that number by average yearly turnover, and you can see how quickly it adds up. (more…)

Don’t get coal in your job search stocking.
Interviews are scary. But if you have a great resume, interviewers better watch out, because a well-qualified applicant is coming to town.
A good resume does half of the work for you. Your interviewer will know your skills and accomplishments, so all you have to do in the formal interview is show that your personality and preferred workplace culture are in line with those of the company.

Here’s a hint: Think outside the box.
This is a question that comes up A LOT. Interviewers use it not just to see where you fit into their company, but also to see how you react to the question. It’s not just your answer they’re considering; it’s how you answer.
So, you have to be confident and know what you’re saying. That means preparing beforehand.
There’s quite a bit of advice out there you’ve probably heard before: Start with your weaknesses. Finish up with your strengths so the interviewer remembers them instead of the weaknesses. (more…)
