Required Education: No formal education is required, although some employers may prefer a high school diploma.



This varies depending on a variety of factors (e.g. experience, geographic area, industry, etc.), but apartment maintenance techs can make as much as $15 to $20 an hour.


What Apartment Maintenance Techs Do

They deal with a variety of tasks, including:

  • Performing repairs and upgrades to keep the interior and exterior of the apartment community in great condition
  • Repairing various plumbing and electrical systems
  • Painting and performing drywall repairs
  • Communicating with apartment tenants about maintenance needs


What Qualities Should Apartment Maintenance Techs Have?

Every position is different, but many employers look for the following skills and attributes:

  • Maintenance experience
  • Attention to detail
  • Communications skills
  • Ability to be on-call for evenings and weekends
