Celebrate National Logistics Day!

June 28 is National Logistics Day, and we’d like to honor and celebrate those who work in the logistics industry. First observed in the U.S. in 2019, the holiday highlights the fact that logistics are essential to the economy on a global level. Logisticians are valuable assets to a company and can be found in nearly every industry.

Due to supply chain issues during the COVID-19 pandemic, 61% of U.S. hiring decision-makers say their company had to alter its hiring practices because of the national supply chain issue. Around 32% say they have hired specifically for logistics/supply chain positions this year.

This sector is expected to grow by 30% between 2020 and 2030, much faster than the national average, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Education

Logisticians may qualify for some positions with an associate degree. However, due to complex logistics and supply chains, companies prefer to hire workers who have at least a bachelor’s degree. Logisticians typically have a bachelor’s degree in logistics and supply chain management, business, or a related field.

Here are some of the characteristics and abilities of a logistics professional:

  • Communication
  • Critical thinking
  • Customer service
  • Organizational
  • Problem-solving
