Burnt popcorn. Ancient tuna. Some strange-smelling dish you can’t even guess the name of. We’ve all been there. Sometimes co-workers bring powerful smelling foods that assault the senses and make it hard to concentrate.

Is it us? Are we too sensitive to smells? Or should co-workers leave some dishes at home?

Employers should (and many do) provide a proper lunch space and enough DOWNTIME so that workers don’t have to nuke their food and eat at their desks. Of course workloads are so medieval that many work through lunch at their desks anyway. I really dislike smelling gross reheated food. Is certainly is distracting snd contributes to an unpleasant and even acrimonious environment at times.

Since I do not want to go to a restaurant at lunch (it’s expensive and it is fattening), I just don’t eat lunch. I used to bring a TV dinner to nuke in the microwave, but now I truly believe it was a contributing factor in turning everyone against me; hence, I will never EVER let anyone see what I am eating (even if it is just a sandwich, because obviously I would never bring in something like Kimchi).

The workplace is a hateful place filled with awful backstabbers who will use something like lunch to justify blindsiding you, causing you to be fired, and basically just depriving you of your life. So that’s why I just do breakfast and dinner now.
